SSH CENTRE at ECEMP 2025: Driving the Energy Transition Through Social Insight
The countdown is on! ECEMP 2025 – European Climate and Energy Modelling Platform – kicks off next week, on 16–17 October in Brussels and online. This year’s theme, “European Energy Transition and Society: Moving Towards Implementation,” places a strong emphasis on integrating Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) into energy and climate modelling to accelerate real-world impact.

SSH CENTRE’s Leadership in Interdisciplinary Modelling
SSH CENTRE is proud to be one of the co-organising projects of ECEMP 2025, reinforcing our commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration. Representative of our Project Coordinator, Davide Natalini from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), serves as Co-Chair of the ECEMP Organizing Committee, actively shaping the event’s agenda and direction.
Davide has long championed the integration of SSH into technical modelling frameworks. His work, including the literature brief “Modelling and Social Sciences & Humanities: Integration of Social Insights into Technical Models,” highlights the need for holistic approaches to climate, energy, and mobility systems. At ECEMP 2025, he will continue advocating for participatory and reflexive modelling practices that can better understand the contribution of societal dynamics to the energy, climate and mobility transition.
Special Session Spotlight: Reflexive Practices in Modelling
SSH CENTRE’s engagement goes beyond coordination. On 17 October, our representative Vojtěch Gerlich and M.A. Abhigya from CzechGlobe will host a special session titled “Mainstreaming Reflexive Practices in Systems Modelling Approaches.” This session will explore how reflexivity and SSH perspectives can be embedded into modelling frameworks to better capture human behaviour and socio-economic implications.
Join Us – Online or In Brussels
ECEMP 2025 offers a free online participation open to all. The first day will focus on policy-relevant findings, while the second day dives into modelling innovations and interdisciplinary approaches. SSH CENTRE invites researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to register and take part in shaping the future of Europe’s energy transition.
